Armies on parade: how to distress a tank!

So I have some props for my armies on parade board! A blasted and flaking tank. I've done a really quick run down for my lovely readers. I've also decided to repaint it brown and white. So that's going to happen.

So this Is what you will end up with!

The idea is to get a good base metal layer. You will need an airbrush for this but don't let that put you off. Give it a go with a regular brush and it would be great to see how that works in the comments.

So phase one. A few different layers of silver, and dots of purple, yellow and brown to indicate heat damage. Thus the flaking paint.

Remember this is what will be revealed once the paint has pealed.
Next is a couple of thin layers of purity seal. You want this layer set in stone.

Then a few layers of regular hair spray. Any drugs store sells this. Regular strength. And just spray it on.

Once it's dry the fun begins. Airbrush your next layer on. Then using water on a clean brush, lightly brush away the paint on the areas you want distressed!

Lovely! It looks like peeling paint because it is peeling paint!!
The next step is using thinned burnt umber oil paint to give it the rusty look.

But using oils is a whole different story.

And here he is next to my finished devilfish.

Cheers for watching guys!

Armies on parade: devilfish realism

Right. I have a problem with tau vehicles. So many curvy shapes. Where the hell do you climb up that thing?! Right?!

So. I've stuck a ladder on that bitch!
With properly spelt instructions too! I got drunk and neurotic ;)

Armies on parade: ground crew

Time to Paint the ground crew and there's lots still to do! the drone is finished really happy with the lens! there's another five more ground crew to finish. I wanted to give them a much cleaner paint scheme as if they've been inside transports for the entire time the campaign while the rest have been facing the bullets. Also given the crew a much lighter ethereal complexion.

Armies on parade: ariel reinforcement

The sunshark bomber and a devil fish have joined the ranks to fill the gaps in my armies on parade board! Beautiful models. Easy to put together and a pleasure to airbrush. You might notice the drones on the sunshark are dark grey and orange. To make them pop a little and give them a more experimental look. They will have minimal damage so they look freshly installed. And after my tau aircast arrive drone Forgeworld my plan will slowly start to come together! Alsomagnetised  the drones. Don't want them spinning off and embarrassing me.

Armies on parade: I've been busy!

Heat damaged Gatling gun, objectsource  lighting, oil washes and miliput sculpture. Phew. A productive day!! Hoping it reads properly!
Here's a bunch of pictures.

Riptide shield

It's battered. It's greasy. It's the riptide shield. Bigger than a terminator. I'm going to town with the object source lighting on this beast.

Armies on parade board nearly based!

So much polyfiller and planning!
First layer was plain poly cement second layer mixed with small sand and stones. The visible white will be wet mud while the top layer will be broken wasteland, barbed wire and barrels n whatnot. You can also see a smoothed down area in the middle which will be the remains of a Tarmac'ed road. I'm hoping every section will tell a little story. Fun times.
